Traditional textile dyeing and finishing processes use large volumes of fresh water.

The World Bank estimates that 17 to 20% of industrial water pollution comes from textile dyeing and treatment. They’ve also identified 72 toxic chemicals in our water solely from textile dyeing, 30 of which are cannot be removed.

Overseas garment workers routinely make less than a living wage, working under extremely oppressive conditions. Apparel workers in Cambodia and Pakistan make $0.37/hr, in Vietnam $0.38/hr, in Sri Lanka $0.43/hr and in China $0.55-0.80/hr. Sweatshops can be viewed as a product of the global economy.
